As we prepared to open DC’s newest middle school, we knew it was critically important to plan for intentional social emotional learning opportunities. Many developmental psychologists recommend meditation and mindfulness practices to be taught to adolescent students as their bodies and brains continue to grow and change. We were thrilled to partner with the Peace of Mind team to bring the curriculum to our middle school students in our inaugural year! As our students learn and practice self-regulation and conflict resolution strategies from the curriculum, we know it will support their well-balanced development and achievement.

The Peace of Mind Core Curriculum for Middle School (Grades 6-8)
The Peace of Mind Core Curriculum for Middle School includes 32 lessons that offer a foundation in mindfulness, neuroscience, social emotional learning and conflict resolution to help students increase personal well-being and develop the tools to work for social justice. This curriculum prepares students to address bias, discrimination and racism with compassion and skill. It also includes an extensive resource section to help educators prepare to teach challenging social justice topics. Each 45 minute lesson starts with mindfulness practice co-led by a student (or students). Lessons finish with Peace Partners, paired discussions that help to build class cohesion and compassion.
